As you might know in States there is a big debate regarding the strategy that the army should follow. This documentary hosts some interesting opinions like Tariq Ali's among others.

I think is worth watching and getting informed. I will appreciate your comments as well.

Of course there are many things that you could write about Lefkada, a small island of Ionian Islands with so long and interesting history. Worth reading this article: Lefkada History . In this post though, I will just recommend you some places for you be.

Regarding food:
  • Stavrakas Patisserie in the main town of Lefkada, just opposite to the church of Agios Minas (a church built at the beginning of the 17th century if I am right) is an excellent shop. Their ice cream varieties are pretty good.
  • In the main town, is worth trying to find Fragoulis shop and buy the traditional salami of Lefkada. Lefkada's salami is a brilliant delicatessen, quite famous for its taste.
  • In the main town please try to find shops selling mandolata and pastelia. Italian influenced sweets, quite traditional and different.
  • Sivota is a good place for fish food. A small, very traditional village of Lefkada.
  • Xaradiatika just before Vlixo. Xaradiatika a north located village with very good taverns mainly offering Greek meat dishes.
  • Lygia, a small port and village towards to Nydri, has quite well fish restaurants.
Regarding spots:
  • You have to visit Agios Nikitas! A unique village, near to the sea, with a beautiful port. Agios Nikitas is protected by international organizations for its nature.

Kythira

Part of the Ionian Islands is the isolated island of Kythira. It is located at the foot of the Peloponnese.
Kythira is known as the Isle of the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite.
Since tourism is still quite undeveloped, Kythira still looks like a calm refuge, with astonishing deserted beaches and an unharmed traditional life.
An interesting place to visit first of all is Hora, the capital of Kythira. It is built on the southern tip of the island, on a high hill which offers a magnificent view of Kapsali.
The town is dominated by a Venetian castle, or kastro, built in 1150 on a cliff so as to be inaccessible from the sea.
The white and blue little houses share their peaceful existence with the Venetian castle and they create an interesting picture.
In Hora you will find many hotels, rooms to let, shops, bars and taverns.
Another place is Avlemonas Village. It is situated on the eastern part of the island. It is a small coastal fishing hamlet with numerous gulfs creating an astounding natural backdrop. The beach is ideal for swimming with crystal clear water. In Avlemonas Village there is also a small castle, “Kastelo”, of Venetian influence.
Here the tourists will find many accommodation facilities and taverns available during the summer.
Kythira has also waterfalls. Close to Mylopotamos village, 15km from Hora is the valley of Neraida or Fonissa. A lovely valley where you meet lush green, old trees and a small lake with waterfall. It is ideal to go for a stroll!
Kythira is known for the picturesque beaches. On of them is Chalkos beach. A small beach situated on the southeastern coast. It is a typical sand and shingle beach with fine gradient adding to its magnificent.
I have visited Kythira already two times and the only thing I could say is that I will definitely go again! A calm refuge with natural beauty is what everyone is looking for to spend his holidays!

Food and Drink in Corfu

Corfu has a tradition of casserole cooking.
Pastitsada, is a Corfu speciality with an Italian touch that derives from Venetian spezzatino. It is created from layered pasta, meat or veal and tomato filling, with bechamel sauce, paprika, cinnamon, and cheese topping. True Corfiot pastitsada is made with cockerel.
Sofrito is another Corfiot speciality. It should contain veal preferably, or beef, cooked in white sauce with olive oil, wine vinegar, garlic and onion, plus white pepper to encourage a thirst.
Roast lamb (arnaki psito), roast kid, pork and of souvlaki are classical tastes you should try!

Of course fish dishes are always available in the psarotavernes (fish restaurants)! Marides for starters this is whitebait, fried whole in olive oil or kalamari, fried squid. Also you can try xsifhia, a kind of 'fish-kebab', with pieces of grilled swordfish sharing a skewer with tomato and onion.

About drink, ouzo is the great Greek drink for socialising, with a strong aniseed flavour. Greek wines are often dismissed, but they have kept the Greeks smiling and singing for a long time. As long as you are not an ostentatious cork-sniffer, you'll find some good wines on Corfu. These include Santa Domenica, light white and red, made from kakotrygis grapes. Some tavernas make their own wine, varelisio, from the barrel and this can be extremely good. Small rural vintners produce distinctive wines such as Liapaditiko, a white wine produced in the Liapades area. Corfu's most famous wine is the expensive and elusive Theotoki Roppa.

If you 'eat Greek', you rarely have room left for such effete indulgences as 'dessert'. The best way to finish a meal is with to taste yoghurt with honey or with fresh fruits.
You should also try kataifi (wheat cakes soaked in honey) or baklava (nut and syrup cake), or loukoumades (fritters soaked in honey).

Many thanks

Joe!

Food in Zakynthos!

If you are a fan of the good food, here are some places where you can find it in Zakynthos.
“Costa’s Brother” is famous for the local delicacies and you can enjoy them in the spacious garden at the back.
If you are looking for a mixture of international and local dishes, “Aresti” is a good suggestion. It is located at the lighthouse of Krioneri and has a good service.
In the town, there are very good tavernas such as "Arekia" and "Oraia Hellas", where one can taste braized rabbit, the island's specialty, and drink Verdea wine. Finally, if you like sea foods, there are plenty seaside tavernas, such as “Theodoritsi’s Taverna” in Gaitani and “Sgouro’s Taverna” in Maherado, which offer fresh fish and nice view.
A visit to these places I am sure that it will convince you!
Bon appetit!!

Joe
